Samsung Galaxy S II Android 4.0 ICS update coming on March 10

The wait for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on the Samsung Galaxy S II is almost over, at least for people with the international version of the phone. Today, Samsung announced that Android 4.0 ICS will be available for the international Samsung Galaxy S II (model number GT-I9100) starting on March 10, 2012.
The upgrade will be available via Samsung’s Kies software. In order to perform the upgrade on your Galaxy S II, you will need to upgrade your Kies software to version 2.0. With the update, you will be getting all of the cool features currently available in ICS, such as:
  • Face unlock
  • Android Beam
  • Mobile Network Data usage
  • and much, much more!
Samsung does warn that Adobe Flash and Bluetooth 3.0 HS will not be supported, and that you have to set up your home screens all over again. Who cares about home screens when you’re getting 4.0?
The upgrade will also be available as an OTA upgrade, but going via Kies will let you get it sooner.
Unfortunately, this upgrade is only for the international version of the Galaxy S II with the single home button. If you’re rocking any model other than GT-I9100, then you’re going to have to wait for your carrier to release the sweetness. Yes, that means you Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile users.
